Majid Kavosifar who killed a corrupted judge in 2007 just seconds before his execution.
On Feb. 20, Iran hanged 10 convicts on Wednesday, the latest in a growing number of executions in the Islamic republic that officials say are aimed at improving public security! but we know that this is their way of putting fear into society. They use this form of punishments to frighten people, to silence people and stop them from criticism.
The hangings bring to at least 48 the number of executions in the Islamic republic so far this year. The number of executions soared last year to 298. The Islamic republic currently makes more use of the death penalty than any country other than China. Islamic Iran had 177 executions in 2006 and 159 executions in 2004.
Many executions last year took place in public but the judiciary chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi in January ordered that no executions should take place in public without his prior approval.
