Iran Shuted Down Human Rights Center

On December 21, 2008 Iranian authorities shut down the main human rights organization which led by Nobel peace prize winner, Shirin Ebadi.

Dozens of plainclothes security members and police in uniforms raided and sealed the building hours before a ceremony was to take place commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Also the group was preparing to honor Mr. Taghi Rahmani, a political activist who spent 17 years in prison on charges of committing crimes against national security in the Islamic republic of Iran.
